Oils 101 - What, How, Why?

Oils 101 - What, How, Why?

Unless you have been living under a rock, Wilma, you have heard of Essential Oils by now. They have become mainstream the last few years, despite being around since forever! Did you know Frankincense oil was a gift given to baby Jesus by one of the (wisest) three wisemen?! Yep! If Jesus used them, you know they are good!

So you have heard of them.. but you're not sure what that means, how to use them, why they are so good so good so good. Well sister, let's dig in!

What is an essential oil?

"If you have ever enjoyed the scent of a rose, you’ve experienced the aromatic qualities of essential oils. These naturally occurring, volatile aromatic compounds are found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants. They can be both beautifully and powerfully fragrant. Essential oils give plants their distinctive smells, essential oils protect plants and play a role in plant pollination. In addition to their intrinsic benefits to plants and their beautiful fragrance, essential oils have long been used for food preparation, beauty treatment, and health-care practices."

How do you use an essential oil?

There are three ways to use essential oils:

Aromatically - simply smelling the product. You can inhale straight from the bottle, put a few drops in your hand, cup them over your nose & breath in, or the most common way which is putting the oils in a diffuser.

Topically - oils can be put directly on to the skin where they will absorb directly into your body. Topical applications include neat which is the oil alone, or diluted which is the oil plus a carry oil used to reduce sensitivity.

Internally - that's right! Some oils can be taken internally. Examples of use are adding them to your water, putting a drop under your tongue, adding a few drops to a veggie cap and swallowing. Not all oils are made alike however. An oil in its purest and safest form should be completely safe for you to ingest. Always read the bottle and if it lists supplemental facts, it is safe to ingest.

Why doterra?

There are many companies out there offering essential oils. I'm sure Susie down the street even bottles her own. So why is the "brand" important? QUALITY people! Not all oils are made alike. Anyone can order an oil in bulk, bottle it and slap their own label on it. Is this safe? Heck no! Doterra executes the most testing out of anyone in the industry.
