Essential Oils for Anxious Feelings
ESSENTIAL OILS FOR ANXIOUS FEELINGS
Hi friends! First, if you are reading this post, I am assuming you or someone you know suffers from anxious feelings. I want you to know, you are not alone. It is sad that many of us deal with these emotions daily. I pray that you find a solution that works for you. Please note that getting professional help is not wrong. I truly believe there is a time and a place for modern medicine. I also believe that there are many natural approaches we can try to assist with these feelings. The recommendations in this post are in no way meant to diagnose, or treat any said ailments or diseases. I am simply giving you a list of oils I have found helpful in my personal journey.
I was at the doterra 2018 convention and during one of the sessions, we had a doctors panel. One of the psychiatrists on this panel told a story of a patient interaction she had. I found this story powerful and I hope you do to.
Her patient came in for a therapy session. He suffered from heightened emotions resulting from a traumatic event (trying to be compliant here so stay with me). Before they started talking, she brought out the Emotional Aromatherapy oils and asked her patient to smell them all and choose the one that resonated with him. He picked Passion, saying how it reminded him of Christmas and being home with his family. He didn’t put on the oil, in fact, they set them aside and started talking. He got to a point in the session where he became extremely upset. The doctor grabbed the Passion oil and had him smell it. Immediately, he calmed down. Simply smelling the oil brought him back to his happy place, being at home with his family on Christmas.
I tell you this for a few reasons | 1. what works for me, might not work for you. In that same set of oils the doctor introduced to the man, I would have picked Motivate. You may have picked Peace. Smell is a powerful tool & can bring you back to a memory | 2. trial and error. I find myself reaching for different oils at different times, for the same “symptoms”. If the first oil you try doesn’t give you the results that they gave your sister, it’s okay. There are many different oils to try until you find the one you cling to.
Here are some recommendations on oils that have worked for myself & others when dealing with anxious feelings.
Serenity - I use both Serenity oil and Serenity Softgels. Serenity is a very calming blend of oils, mostly known for sleep. The reason Serenity is recommended for sleep is because it creates a very calming environment. Perfect when you’re feeling anxious AMIRIGHT?!
Copaiba - If you ask me what my favorite oil is, I will tell you Copaiba every single time. DoTERRA recently introduced the Copaiba oil in 2017 and the softgels in 2018.. can I get an Amen?! Copaiba can soothe anxious feelings and on top of that, may support a healthy immune system and cardiovascular system. This is the reason I take 2 softgels every day (1 morning, 1 evening) AND diffuse the oil while I sleep.
Peace - this is a blend that comes in both the oil form & in the touch form (roller bottle diluted with FCO). I personally have both because I like to diffuse the oil at night and I also carry the roller bottle with me in my purse. I love how easy the touch roller is to apply.
Balance - this blend of oils came as a gift with purchase when I first enrolled. If I didn’t use this oil daily, I would be a puddle on the floor.
Douglas Fir - yes, I smell like a Christmas Tree and I do not care. Think of a big tree like a Douglas Fir.. think of the huge roots grounding this tree to stand tall & not waiver. THIS is why I am obsessed with all our “tree” oils. I only recently started using this oil daily to combat anxious feelings. My bottle is almost gone. In fact, as I type this, I have Douglas Fir & Wild Orange going in my diffuser. Try it, trust me. Plus, it’s perfect as we head into Christmas!
Magnolia Touch - this oil was introduced at the 2018 doterra convention & as soon as I got my hands on it, I was smitten. It has such a sweet, feminine scent. The best part of it is the chemical constituent Linalool, which is a very calming chemical. Magnolia contains 71% Linalool which is the highest of all essential oils, compared to Lavender (known for its calming effect) at only a 30% Linalool content.
Bergamot - a friend recommended I try Bergamot when I told her I have anxious feelings. She personally used it following a very traumatic incident with her child in the hospital. I love that Bergamot contains both calming and uplifting properties.
Here are other oils that have been known to help: Lavender, Vetiver, Jasmine, Basil, Chamomile, Ylang Ylang, Patchouli, Geranium, Marjoram, Rose
